Brown Park Recreation Precinct Plan

Brown Park Recreation Precinct Plan

Gresley Abas Architects were engaged by the Shire of Mundaring to prepare a Precinct Plan to guide the development of potential new facilities and improvements to the existing facilities at Brown Park Recreation Precinct (BPRP) in Swan View within the Shire of Mundaring. Community Planners CCS Strategic and Quantity surveyor NBQSS Cost Planners were part of the Gresley Abas team. Brown Park is a historic and culturally rich community and sporting site.

The most significant aspect of the project was the extraordinary number of users and uses of the site, all founded by clubs and organisations that have been in existence for many decades. An intensive engagement process was undertaken with more than 30 of the groups. It is anticipated that the consolidated BPRP Plan will improve multi-generational and cross-cultural inclusion, activation and social engagement at the precinct by focussing on future investment and asset management of recreation spaces and facilities.

The Masterplan for Brown Park creates a sporting and community place built on the strong feelings of ‘home’ expressed by all stakeholders and its history. It is founded on the creation of 3 closely interrelated zones which define sports, community and a zone called ‘the creek’. The sports zone centres around a central club pavilion between two ovals, featuring facilities on both levels and an extensive verandah with views in all directions. Adjacent to the pavilion on the west are 7 cricket practice nets and on the east a new undercover 4 multi-marked court facility. The creek zone integrates established trees, a nature play area, bike pump track, and skate park. Community functions, including a recreation centre, youth centre, new café, community shed, and fenced dog park, are in the northeast. Enhanced accessibility, parking, pathways, and amenities will support year-round community use including events, agricultural shows and markets.
