East Pilbara Sports Master Plan
As a consultant to our collaboration partner CCS Strategic, Gresley Abas were engaged to complete master planning for sporting precincts and facilities across the three major townships in the Shire of East Pilbara, Marble Bar, Nullagine and Newman.
With stakeholder involvement, we developed master plans to embrace innovative, contemporary, functional and flexible facility designs. We focused on enhancing the existing amenities with improved consideration of the location’s climatic conditions whilst enabling innovation in design and management.
Key outcomes of the master planning process were finding operational efficiencies, reducing operation costs, allowing remote management oversight, using technology in new infrastructure, and renewing existing infrastructure. The design philosophy developed and applied includes:
Renewal of existing infrastructure where possible
Removal of redundant, poorly utilised and aged infrastructure
Co-location of user groups into multi-use of facilities and the need for flexibility and adaptability of spaces
Consideration whole-of-life costs for facility development and refurbishment balancing needs versus cost
Development of place-based services to support the diverse places throughout the Shire
Responding to, and enhancing the distinctive characteristics of each local area, contributing to a sense of place
Considering landscape and buildings as an integrated and sustainable system, within a broader ecological context
Ensuring facility legibility through design, connections and both directional and information signage
