Mt Barker Pool Upgrade
A Vision for a Modern, Inclusive Aquatic Precinct
Gresley Abas is working with the Shire of Plantagenet to reimagine the Mount Barker Swimming Pool, a much loved community facility that has served the Great Southern region for more than fifty years. As the only 50 metre pool in the Lower Great Southern, the facility plays an important role in recreational swimming, learn-to-swim programs, school carnivals and regional competitions.
The redevelopment replaces ageing infrastructure with a modern aquatic precinct designed to support community life for the next generation. The design creates a welcoming and accessible outdoor destination that supports everyday recreation while accommodating larger regional events and swim meets.
The project brings together new water bodies, upgraded amenities and landscaped spectator areas to create a vibrant civic space within Mount Barker’s town centre. Durable materials, efficient plant systems and flexible pool configurations ensure the facility can operate sustainably while adapting to a wide range of community uses.
Key design features
New 50 metre eight lane lap pool with swim wall for flexible programming
Dedicated learn-to-swim pool and splash pool for young families
Shaded spectator terraces and landscaped grassed areas for events and gatherings

Together these improvements will transform Mount Barker’s ageing pool into a contemporary regional facility that supports recreation, health and community connection across the Great Southern.
