Supreme Court Gardens Stage
Gresley Abas collaborated with Emerge Landscape Architects on the redevelopment of Supreme Court Gardens for the City of Perth, designing a new permanent stage to support small to medium-scale events within one of Perth’s most significant civic parks.
Inspired by the former orchestral shell designed by Harold Krantz, the stage balances heritage sensitivity with contemporary performance requirements. Located in the north-west corner of the Gardens, the structure is carefully positioned within the landscape, framed by mature Ficus trees, the Talbot Hobbs Memorial and views toward Elizabeth Quay.
The design integrates an elegant canopy for weather protection, universal access via a compliant ramp, and discreet lighting and power infrastructure to support a diverse program of performances and community events. Durable, low-maintenance materials ensure the structure can withstand intensive public use while complementing the character of the Gardens.
Developed through close collaboration with the landscape team and the City of Perth, the project delivers a modest but carefully crafted civic structure that enhances the Gardens’ role as a place for gathering, performance and cultural celebration in the heart of the city.
