Wyndham Community Hub
Gresley Abas was engaged by the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley to develop a concept design for the Wyndham Community Hub, a project that reimagines the town’s recreation and aquatic facilities as a coordinated civic precinct.
The work responded to the need for improved leisure and sport facilities for the Wyndham community and surrounding region, while also creating infrastructure capable of supporting emergency evacuation during extreme weather events. Building on earlier planning work, Gresley Abas worked with the Shire to refine the project brief, undertake new concept planning and assist in shaping the Request for Tender for the next stage of architectural services.
The concept establishes a connected recreation and aquatic precinct that builds on existing facilities while introducing new community, sport and youth spaces. A new central entry and civic forecourt strengthens the identity of the precinct and improves connections between indoor recreation facilities and the outdoor pool areas.
The design emphasises shaded outdoor gathering spaces, flexible community facilities and robust, climate-responsive architecture suited to the Kimberley environment. Together these elements create a welcoming community destination that supports sport, recreation and social connection for Wyndham residents.
